Summer Fiesta Event
(Our first fundraiser)
The Summer Fiesta is on June 30, 2012, Saturday, 12-8pm at the Nathaniel Greene Park at 2400 South Scenic, Springfield, Missouri. It is 1 mile north of Battlefield Road.
Noel Duque is chairman and in charge of programs and Lolit Nausbaummer is in charge of food.The 55 acre Nathaniel Greene Park has several new features which include the new 12,000 sq ft. Botanical Learning Center, the Butterfly House, the Mizumoto Japanese Garden, the Roston Hosta garden, the Rose Circle, and the Close Memorial park which leads to the South Creek trails. It has extensive botanical features including trees native to the Ozark area, a new shrub group display, a perennial grass and vegetable demonstration garden.
Lunch starts at 12:30. Games for adults and children will start at around 230pm.
The theme is Hawaiian and we encourage everyone to scour the thrift shops for colorful outfits. The pavilion accomodates 80 people but is wide open with surrounding trees nearby. Bring your lawn chairs and canopies. There is a prize for the person who brings the most guests(who will purchase our delicacies).
Food: This is not a potluck but a fundraiser. Food will be sold by vendor-members with a 60%/40% sharing arrangement. 60% will go to the vendors to cover their cost. 40% goes to Filaasmo to fund our year long activities. Filipino/Hawaiian cuisine is the focus of this celebration. We have commitments for lechon, achara, caldereta, pancit, fruit, halo-halo or maize con hielo, drinks, rice and various desserts. We look forward to our well known expert cooks to serve us their best dishes. Please do not bring food unless you plan to sell it.
We ask our members to register as vendors. Please contact Noel Duque at 417-823-8122 or email Lolit Nausbaumer at pibarugo@yahoo.com / tel.417-725-6969. Tickets will be sold for 50 cents and $1. We are attempting to have a variety of regional delicacies. The vendors will set the prize for their dish. Noel emphasized that he wants hot food served hot and cold food served cold. We will have several chafing dishes to keep your food warm.
Summer Fiesta Raffle
We have two balik bayan boxes donated by Al and Becky Hummel, our VGM Shipping forwarder agents. The raffle tickets are now available for sale at $5 each.The ticket is valid till October 31, 2012 and is good for shipping to any province in the Philippines. Drop offs only and no pick-up. You need not be present to win. Ordinarily, shipping costs are $70 to $100, depending on the destination. We limited the number of tickets to 120 to increase your chance of winning. As of today, May 1, 2012, we have sold 21 tickets. Becky Hummel tel 823-7868 and Jeannette Collantes tel 417-887-9733 to buy tickets.
Volunteers needed:

2. to help with setting up vendors and food-6
3. health workers in case of minor emergencies-2
4. set up a few tables outside the pavilion-2
5. gofers- 2 to help the av person and other misc. chores
6. talented performers – unlimited need for our programs including this summer fiesta
Highlights of meeting April 26, 2012:
Treasurer’s Report: Boathouse Equinox/Easter income $253, expenses $397 with $150(37%) for rental. Still in the hole for $144 but balance is paid by your membership fees.
You are supporting Filaasmo with your membership fees so we can continue to network, establish ties and cultivate friendships within our small ethnic community. We all need to support each other. Every Filipino counts.

First class postage increased to 45 cents on January 22, 2012. Postcards now cost 32 cents each. A mailing to 200 FILAASMO members and relatives easily costs us $100 to $150 per mailing. We want to save on postage on invitations and other news and have explored email as a means for delivering invitations and information to all of you. The only cost of a Yahoo Group eblast is the volunteer’s time, as there is no printing or postage involved. We will only announce events/invitations and short 1-2 page newsletters.
